Its broad practice includes regulatory work, including data protection, telecoms, media and gambling, as well as commercial, marketing, advertising, IP and e-commerce law. Head of data protection Izabela Kowalczuk-Pakuła advised Media Direction on its digital marketing activities and issues related to the implementation of GDPR. Piotr Dynowski leads on technology and communications issues and Kuba Ruiz leads the digital law team. Tomasz Zalewski, who has considerable experience in major IT projects, joined from Wierzbowski Eversheds Sutherland in January 2019.

The group often works closely with the firm's 'excellent international network' to advise multinational clients on their IP portfolios in Poland. 'Outstanding' and 'highly effective' co-head Marta Koremba successfully represented Swiss Pharma International in a trade mar infringement claim against a competitor that has put an identical drug onto the market under a similar trade mark. Fellow co-head, 'excellent patent litigator' Piotr Dynowski, is representing Nokia in a number of civil and criminal proceedings against counterfeiters in Poland. The group welcomed Tomasz Zalewski from Wierzbowski Eversheds Sutherland in January 2019.

Bird & Bird Szepietowski i wspólnicy sp. k. has developed an impressive niche in the intersection between the banking sector and technology. Marta Stanisławska and group head Sławomir Szepietowski are the sole legal advisers to the Polish Banks Associate in relation to the development of its payment services standards.

Prawo energetyczne

The team at Bird & Bird Szepietowski i wspólnicy sp. k. stands out for its gas sector expertise and for its experience in handling commercial solar mandates. Highlights for practice head Andrzej Nentwig included advising PGNiG on various matters pertaining to contracts, tariffs and regulations. He also advised the joint venture of Sun Investment Group and E-Energija on the acquisition of a portfolio of 43 photovoltaic projects in Poland. Associate Łukasz Petelski is another key name. The group was greatly boosted by the arrival of Paweł Bajno from Norton Rose Fulbright in January 2019.

Prawo pracy

Bird & Bird Szepietowski i wspólnicy sp. k.'s Karolina Stawicka leads the team and has 'a professional attitude'. Together with Katarzyna Piechocka, she is advising Skanska on matters pertaining to collective and individual employment law, with a focus on global mobility and immigration. Also recommended are Paulina Grotkowska and Katarzyna Magnuska.

The team at Bird & Bird Szepietowski i wspólnicy sp. k. handles a variety of investment and domestic arbitration, construction and IP disputes and white-collar criminal law matters. Bartłomiej Niewczas, who leads the team, has expertise in complex construction disputes, and is supported by criminal law specialist Arkadiusz Matusiak and Jakub Ruiz, whose areas are contentious IT and technology matters. Adam Kowalczyk joined the team from PwC Legal, where he was head of the litigation, regulatory disputes and white-collar crime department, in September 2018.

Bird & Bird Szepietowski i wspólnicy sp. k.'s team is led by Rafał Dziedzic, who has extensive experience in M&A transactions. Dziedzic advised the New York Stock Exchanged-listed CryoLife on the Polish aspects of its $225m acquisition of Jotec. The team welcomed Paweł Bajno from Norton Rose Fulbright in January 2019.
