Africa

Our knowledge and experience of Africa's legal systems, business transactions and local cultures, combined with our world-renowned specialist skills in different sectors and practices, and our relationships with local law firms, mean that we are able to provide timely and focused support to both Africa-based clients and international clients wishing to expand their business into different parts of the vast continent. We have advised on matters in over 40 African countries for more than 20 years.

We have lawyers who speak English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese and Arabic who are experts in various industries including energy, mining, traditional and smart infrastructure, technology & communicationsaviation & defence, retail & consumer, life sciences & healthcare and financial services and fintech. Members of our global Africa Practice Group exist across our network of offices including: Paris, London, The Hague, Madrid, Milan, Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

We often represent African state-owned entities, public and private corporations, private equity institutional and private investors. For example, our unrivalled knowledge of the telecoms sector has made us the perfect partner for African governments and regulatory agencies wishing to review their legal, legislative and regulatory telecommunications frameworks, award mobile licences, and implement fibre infrastructure projects and broadband connectivity strategies.

We have a strong track record advising on a full range of African corporate transactions including M&A, disposals, takeovers, joint ventures and IPOs as well as on PPP, venture capital and private equity financings. Our lawyers also have experience working on award winning and large-scale project financing deals across Africa. Our IP team represents both African and international clients related to trademarks and brand protection, while we also have lawyers who specialise in dispute resolution and arbitration, and can help achieve enforceable remedies and settlements. Additional experts on our team bring their experience in international trade agreements, including bilateral investment treaties.

Our Casablanca office supports our Moroccan and international clients on various legal needs in Africa and on the other continents. This office works closely with our Paris teams on corporate, commercial, financing, competition, IP, data protection and arbitration amongst other matters.

Over the years, we have also grown a network of local experts such as engineers, economists, and risk analysts, complementing our close working relationships with high quality lawyers and local firms in many of the leading jurisdictions north and south of the Sahara.
