I am a specialist in financial and economic criminal law with more than 35 years of experience as defence counsel and I conduct corporate investigations in complex (cross-border) fraud cases, advising multinationals and their executives. 

I’m a specialist in corporate criminal law and I deal with white-collar crime in a financial, economic and tax crime context. 

Apart from acting as criminal defence counsel in the courtroom, I am regularly found in the Boardroom of my clients. I advise Boards on governance and risk & compliance (GRC) issues, including cybersecurity and Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG). I have more than 35 years of experience in the law practice, including acting for corporates and individuals in high-profile litigation cases. Apart from being an expert in corporate crime and white-collar defence litigation, I also deal with internal investigations, compliance issues and regulatory enforcement.
 
My practice has a strong international focus and is marked by multi-disciplinary aspects of law. 

I have broad experience in acting for companies in a wide variety of industries and sectors, including construction, heavy industries, aviation, technology & telecom, pharma & life sciences, financial services and automotive. In the context of corporate crime, I also act for individual managers, directors, executives or owners, who have been charged for being criminally responsible for the wrongful conduct of the company.

My extensive experience as a litigator in a wide range of criminal procedures includes defending my clients against charges as diverse as tax fraud, fraud and wrong doings in the financial sector, environmental fraud, bribery and corruption, money laundering, cybercrime, international sanctions and insolvency fraud. Apart from defending suspects, I’m also experienced in asset-tracing and recovery for corporates that have been victimised. In this context, I’m collaborating with the Prosecution Service, rather than being their legal opponent.

• Acting for a stock broker in ‘Operation Clickfonds’, a criminal investigation into the Dutch stock exchange (‘Beursfraude’)
• Representing a Greek shipping company in the environmental fraud case regarding oil tanker ‘Probo Koala’
• Defending a director of Bouwfonds and a real estate agent in the fraud investigation into the property development sector (‘Klimop-zaak’, ‘Ivy-case’)
• Successfully acting for partners (auditors and tax advisers) of ‘Big 4’ firms in tax fraud and money laundering cases
• Conducting cross-border internal investigations for multinationals regarding money laundering, KYC compliance, corruption and fraud allegations

• Advising the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten how to resolve a prosecution for money laundering of a regulated financial institution which lost its banking license
• Acquittal of a Board Member of insurance company Achmea in a tax fraud case
• Reaching an out-of-court settlement for a financial institution in the Dutch Caribbean charged with violating AML laws
• Reaching an out-of-court settlement for a trading company charged with Trade Based Money Laundering offences
• Successfully defended former Board Members of a multi-national oil & gas company in a public corruption case regarding Nigerian oil prospect licenses.
