I'm a senior associate in Bird & Bird's Intellectual Property Group. Having studied physics at university, I'm fascinated by technology and the way in which it is reshaping our world.
A core part of my practice is supporting clients with disputes relating to intellectual property, and I have particular expertise project managing multi-jurisdictional patent disputes and developing litigation project management platforms.
Since joining Bird & Bird in 2010, my patent related experience has covered everything high tech from semiconductor fabrication and layout, to analogue and digital electronics, flash memory, communication protocols and equipment, operating systems, software and video coding. My broader practice covers mechanical engineering, consumer products and medical devices and I have worked with clients in a wide range of sectors including telecommunications, consumer electronics, online business, financial services, aviation, automotive and oil & gas.
Aside from technology disputes, much of my work focuses on helping clients navigate issues relating to the protection and commercialisation of data as they take advantage of the power of big data analytics and artificial intelligence. I also have a particular interest in the wider intellectual property issues arising from the development and deployment of AI systems. I am a member of the AIPPI Standing Committee on Digital Economy and have been appointed as the study question coordinator for AIPPI UK. I am also the co-author of the UK chapter of Thompson Reuters' Trade Secrets Throughout the World.
As part of my broader practice, I also advise manufacturers, importers and distributors regarding products safety legislation and standards affecting product design, manufacture, testing, marking and labelling, regulations governing hazardous substances and environmental legislation covering the disposal of products. With experience covering CE marking, EU batteries legislation, REACH/CLP, RoHS, WEEE and Electromagnetic Compatibility legislation, my particular area of interest is the regulation of emerging technologies such as IoT devices, UAS and AI.
