As a counsel in our Amsterdam-based international Data Protection and Commercial practices, I advise on global and domestic data compliance projects, technology contracts, data protection enforcement and the legal aspects around online innovation and advanced technologies.
I have over 10 years' of experience working together with technology-driven companies, financial/payment companies and other data-rich clients on compliance, data transfer, enforcement and outsourcing matters. I get a genuine satisfaction from combining my knowledge of IT and new technologies with my legal expertise to get clients what they need.
Over the years I have been seconded with a number of technology companies, including a prominent telecom operator, a leading automotive company and a pharmaceutical company. I use my in-house experience to provide clients pragmatic and hands-on advice that helps them translate legal issues into solutions that are appreciated by their colleagues and customers.
I have extensive experience in working with relevant supervisors, including leading Binding Corporate Rules applications, investigations and permits. This is of great use to companies when navigating the regulatory landscape in Europe and the Netherlands.
Beyond Europe I have a strong interest in and knowledge of the data protection and broader legal & technology developments in other parts of the world, specifically in Asia. I have previously worked in Singapore and Jakarta and frequently visit the region.
I am a co-editor of the Journal for Internet Law (Tijdschrift voor Internetrecht), and am actively involved in the Dutch Association for Information Technology and Law and the Association for Privacy Law. I am a published author, having co-written books on the law and computer games and on the liability of intermediaries. I often speak and write on topics including data protection matters, online liability, and net neutrality.
