TechLaw Week 2021 - 9-11 November

Our 16th annual TechLaw Week at Bird & Bird was an exciting week of events, involving our experts from around the globe, who highlighted the regulatory, geopolitical, business and economic issues expected to impact businesses.

The first day focussed on the key tech and data issues businesses across the APAC region are facing. Sydney partners Hamish Fraser and Sophie Dawson spoke about the new Data Cyber security law affecting the APAC region. Ted Chwu and Renee Lee provided the audience with a window to Shenzhen, reviewing the Tech innovations and their potential global impact. Finally Singapore lawyer Loren Leung assessed the growth of the global eCommerce platforms from an APAC perspective.

The second day focussed on Practical insights on how to win public sector business in the UK, Germany, France and The Netherlands, particularly by US Tech companies. Input was provided by a US public sector specialist Ryan Roberts who gave details on the contrasts between the US, UK and European approaches to public sector tech procurement. The session was chaired by our US partner Nick Aries and our public sector European specialists Janneke Kohlen, Martin Conrads and Raphael Weiss all contributed to the discussion.

The final day focussed on Artificial Intelligence. Our Regulatory, Data and Tech specialists consisting of Rebecca O’Kelly-Gillard, Toby Bond, Clara Clark Nevola, Ian Edwards, Richard McMorris, Will Bryson, Francine Cunningham, Feyo Sickinghe, Joaquin Munoz from our London and European offices, examined how new and existing laws are dealing with Artificial Intelligence. The session focussed on privacy, intellectual property, data, AI regulations and covered key trends and initiatives as well as the direction of EU policy. This was followed by a practical look at contracting for AI with Ian Edwards and Will Bryson.
