Sabyasachi Chatterjee

I am a Counsel in Bird & Bird's Corporate & Commercial Group in Singapore and advise on a range of corporate transactions including venture capital and private equity investments, M&As, and joint ventures.

I have particular experience in advising on venture capital and private equity transactions through various stages of investment in the lifecycle of companies (from incorporation and commercial set-up, and angel and seed round funding, to scale-up and beyond) and have advised on transactions in India, Singapore and South-East Asia, the Middle East, and the US. My clients range from large corporates and private equity and venture capital investors to emerging growth companies, entrepreneurs, HNIs, and family offices.

Prior to joining Bird & Bird, I served as the lead counsel of one of the largest corporate venture capital investors in the United Arab Emirates where I advised on global investments in early to growth stage tech-enabled companies and venture funds. Through my experience of working in-house, including with other investors and investor-backed companies, I have developed a deep understanding of the nuances and intricacies of venture capital investments and other corporate transactions as well as the requirements and expectations of clients. Further, having worked across several jurisdictions in Asia, the Middle East, and the US, I am able to bring a multi-jurisdictional perspective on corporate transactional issues to provide practical and solution-oriented advice to clients.

I graduated from one of the premier universities in India with a First Class and Ranking on the University Merit List.

My previous experience also includes working with an AMLAW 100 US law firm and a 'Big Four' Japanese law firm in Singapore, and prior to that, in India, with a premier Indian law firm.

• Advising Cercano Management Asia Pte Ltd. (formerly known as Vulcan Capital Singapore Management Pte. Ltd.), on its investment in the Series B2 round fundraising of a Singapore-based start-up that operates one of the largest digital pharmacy network in South East Asia.
• Advising CE Ventures on several investments including in: (i) Kitopi, the fastest unicorn in the Middle East region that operates a kitchen network providing cooking and delivery services for other food brands, as a part of its Seed and Series B rounds of fundraising; (ii) Cohesity, a US data management company, as a part of its Series E round fundraising; (iii) Mobile Premier League (MPL), one of India's largest online gaming application and content monetisation platform, as a part of its Series C round fundraising; (iv) Marti Technologies, a Delaware-based micro-mobility company with operations in Europe and the Middle East, as a part of its Series A round fundraising; (v) Tarabut Gateway, MENA region's first and largest regulated open banking platform, as a part of its USD13 million Series Seed round fundraising; (vi) FreshToHome, one of largest online retailer globally for fresh and chemical-free seafood, meat, fruits, and vegetables, in relation to Series A, Series B, and Series C rounds fundraising.
• Advising a family office on its investment in a Houston based medical devices company developing minimally invasive microsurgical robotic device.
• Advising Crescent Enterprises on its joint venture with a government linked environmental management company in the United Arab Emirates for sustainable and smart transportation.
• Advising a Singapore-headquartered robo-advisory platform on its USD 12 million Series A round fundraising led by a British asset management company.
