Gian Marco Rinaldi

As a Counsel in our Tech & Comms Group in Milan, I have extensive experience of drafting and negotiating outsourcing and IT agreements for national and international companies.

I work with our clients on cloud computing agreements, software development and distribution agreements, outsourcing and further IT agreements, automotive sector agreements, ecommerce, patent and trade secrets licensing, consumer law, copyright licensing, assignment of TV rights and distribution, media services, works production, advertising and sponsorship rights in television and various sports, and electronic publishing.

I advise clients on artificial intelligence, internet of things, blockchain and smart contracts, electronic signatures and other trust services. I also deal with a wide range of commercial contracts.

I have lectured on software agreements at Bocconi University in Milan and at the Sole 24 Ore Masters Programme; on ecommerce, digital signatures and internet copyright issues at the Luiss University of Rome; and on data processing in public administration at the International Institute of Research in Milano. I have also published several articles on IT and IP issues.

Before joining the team at Bird & Bird, I worked for a large Italian law firm and for a boutique IP firm in Milan, dealing with issues in IP, IT, advertising, sport and privacy. I am fluent in Italian, English, and French.

• Along with Atos and other international IT organisations, I worked on a European project to create a set of standard legal and technical rules for cloud computing services. The project was founded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 programme.
• I assisted a leading international company in the transport sector in relation to a disruptive internet of things project applied to their business activity.
• I advised on IP issues and reviewing IT contracts relating to a project of an electronic platform for providing health and wellness services on behalf of a leading international pharma company.
• I reviewed and negotiated an IT contract on behalf of a US company for the provision of business analytics service to a leading Italian energy company.
• I drafted and negotiated a complex contract on behalf of an important Italian company against a leading international IT provider for moving to a cloud only IT system.
