Dr. Maria Jurek

I am a Senior Associate in the Intellectual Property team.

I have many years of experience in advising clients on intellectual property matters . I have worked for international and national companies from virtually all sectors of the economy, including the pharmaceutical, FMCG, electronic and construction industries.

I handle matters relating to patent infringements, supplementary protection certificates (SPC), industrial designs, and trademarks, as well as copyrights and plant variety protection rights. I have participated in patent application proceedings and in litigation aimed to invalidate patents and additional protection rights and/or trademarks before the Polish Patent Office and administrative courts.

I have assisted my clients in cases involving the identity or similarity of signs, parallel imports, product counterfeiting, unfair advertising and breach of business secrets. I have conducted internet domain arbitrations before the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Centre and before national arbitration tribunals.

Before joining Bird & Bird, I gained my professional experience working for renown law firms specialising in intellectual property protection and life sciences. I also worked as a case handler at the Competition Protection Department of the Polish Office for Competition and Consumer Protection where I conducted proceedings in cases of anti-competitive practices in the pharmaceutical industry. I have participated in the working groups of the European Competition Network (ECN).
