Bird & Bird Warsaw and London teams advise on the Solidarity Transport Hub in Poland

Our international team led by Stuart Cairns has successfully tendered to advise the Solidarity Transport Hub (CPK) in the process of selecting key consultants for the new airport in Poland.

The Solidarity Transport Hub is a planned transfer hub in the centre of Poland which will integrate air, rail and road transport. The development envisages the construction of an airport located 37 km west of Warsaw and covering an area of 3,000 ha. The new airport will initially be able to handle up to 45 million passengers per year, with the potential for this to increase to up to 100 million. The investment should create over 150,000 new jobs.

Stuart Cairns (partner, co-head of the International Projects and Procurement group and leader of our International Airports group), will be supported by Magdalena ZabÅ‚ocka-Foulkes (Counsel, Commercial team) and Tomasz Zalewski (partner, head of Commercial) in Warsaw and by Marco Nicolai (partner, Construction group) and Chris Murray, (senior associate, Commercial team) in London will support the client in the process of selecting strategic consultants for the investment, including an advisor who will prepare a Master Plan for the airport and another who will manage an integrated project team.

Our global Airports team acts for some of the world’s largest airports on the procurement of complex and high value contracts: most recently we have been supporting Isavia (Iceland): the Icelandic state-owned airport and air navigation services operator, on multiple procurement processes related to their Major Development Plan at Keflavik International Airport.

"We are delighted to have been appointed to advise CPK on this fantastic project. For us, getting involved at such an early stage in the development of this new world-class facility, is an indictment of the incredible work that our International Airport's Team and our Major Infrastructure Team have been delivering so successfully in recent years." – says Stuart Cairns.

“We deeply appreciate, but also have high expectations concerning the cooperation with Bird & Bird, experienced experts in the procurement of complex infrastructure contracts. Preparations for the construction of Solidarity Airport are underway despite the COVID-19 epidemic, and the schedule is very tight. To meet deadlines and maintain quality, we are supposed to work with the best on the market.” – says Konrad Majszyk, Communications & PR Director STH.
