ECHR releases its judgment in the Pechstein case: what does this mean for the Court of Arbitration for Sport?

On 2 October 2018, the European Court of Human Rights ("ECHR") released its decision in Pechstein, the latest development in a case that has run through various courts in Europe for almost a decade. The ruling reaffirmed the Court of Arbitration for Sport's role as a provider of independent and impartial tribunals for sports disputes but raises the possibility that more of its cases might need to be heard in public in the future.
