The Hague office of Bird & Bird recently held its sixth 'Ladies@Bird' event at the Caballero Fabriek, an industrial and creative hotspot in The Hague on Tuesday 22 November. Ladies@Bird is a unique event for business women which provides expert insight into relevant hot topics and creates networking opportunities.

More than 45 women from different national and international organisations took the opportunity to learn more about this year's topic, innovating in the food & beverage industry, as well as to meet and network with each other. Attendees included in-house counsel, project managers and marketeers from various organisations.

The programme started with a presentation from Minerve Wach (Vincente), Product Development Manager Tomato Ketchup and Cold Sauces for Kraft Heinz, about big innovation projects in the food industry. Furthermore, Janneke Kohlen, counsel at Bird & Bird The Hague, gave a presentation about competition law in the food industry. She started with the basics of EU competition law and explained compliance with EU Competition law in more detail relating it to recent competition law cases in the Food & Beverages industry.

After the presentations, one of our clients Gebrouwen door Vrouwen (Brewed by Women) gave a short introduction about the start of her company. In 2013 the two sisters from Amsterdam started brewing their own beers and now they are successfully selling their beers throughout the Netherlands. All the attendees had the opportunity to try the fresh, slightly sweet beers during the drinks.

The Dutch Ladies@Bird events are organised by partners Manon Rieger-Jansen and Roelien van NeckThey commented: "This is the sixth time we organised a Ladies@Bird event in the Netherlands. It was again a memorable event. We are already looking forward to organising it next year." The excitement about this event was confirmed by the attendees' feedback. One participant said: "Really inspiring afternoon about food innovation".

For four consecutive years (2013 - 2016) our Dutch office has won Euromoney's European Women in Business Law award for "Best in Country" in the Netherlands. The title was awarded in recognition of the firm's strong position in the Dutch market, its substantial share of female partners and its ambitious diversity initiatives, such as Ladies@Bird.
