Roelien is an expert in the field of technology law and digital business, with a commercial and pragmatic approach.
Roelien heads our Commercial Group in the Netherlands and she is based in The Hague.
Roelien focuses on commercial matters in the IT and other technology-based industries. She is a specialist in digital business and technology related contracts. Roelien has a specific expertise in the field of (online) business-to-consumer (B2C) matters and she advises clients on all aspects of trading practices, marketing and advertising.
She also advises on commercial contracts covering distribution, sales, agency, cooperation and procurement arrangements, acting for suppliers and customers. Additionally, she represents clients in legal proceedings in her specialty areas. She is a member of our Tech & Comms Group.
Roelien regularly speaks at internal and external seminars and courses. Roelien is a co-editor of legal journal "Juridisch up to Date" (Legally up to date) and she regularly contributes to other leading legal journals. Roelien is a co-author of the leading handbook "Recht en Computer" (Law and Computer) (Kluwer 2014 – 6th edition).
She is a member of various professional associations in the field of IT and commercial law, including ITechlaw, the Netherlands Association of Computer Lawyers (VIRA), the Netherlands Association for Media and Communication Law (VMC) and the Netherlands Association for Distribution, Franchising and Agency Law (DFA).
Roelien was admitted to the bar in 2000 and joined us in 2007. She graduated from Leiden University and subsequently completed an LL.M. degree at University College London. She also holds a postgraduate cum laude degree in information technology law.
