Managing Sexual Harassment Risks – Challenges for in-house legal and HR teams

As part of our Managing compliance: The People Risk Agenda series, Bird & Bird held a panel event considering Managing Sexual Harassment Risks – Challenges for in-house legal and HR teams.

Our International Employment experts Senior Associate Kate Hurn and Partner Tim Spillane, were joined by Zaimal Azad, Senior Campaigns Officer from the Fawcett Society and Nick Tomlinson, Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer at dentsu international.

The panel discussed why managing sexual harassment is a key risk and compliance issue for businesses, and explored the practical and personal challenges that senior legal and HR leaders face when addressing issues of sexual discrimination within the business. The panel considered:

  • Why should tackling sexual harassment be on the Risk & Compliance agenda for employers?
  • Keeping true to the values of the organisation and implementing these in practice – the role of legal and HR in upholding these values
  • How to handle the potential disconnect between an organisation’s “global” values and any regional/country specific legal processes
  • Navigating the personal and professional complexities of dealing with a sexual harassment allegation
  • The legal limits of NDAs from the recently enacted Speak Out Legislation in the US, to the guidance from the Law Society in the UK
  • Influencing change – what works?

This event recording should be of interest to anyone with responsibility for HR or in-house legal functions within their organisation.
