Patrick Cordwell

I am an associate in our Corporate and Commercial Group in Sydney, advising technology and communications clients on a range of commercial and regulatory matters.

I help clients to solve competition and complex regulatory issues in the tech and telecoms sectors.

My particular expertise is in the treatment of communications services and infrastructure under Australia's telecommunications regulatory regime. I help service providers to understand and navigate their obligations including in relation to lawful interception, cyber security, data retention and privacy. On the infrastructure side, I advise on licensing, spectrum, and access regulation issues.

I particularly enjoy working with clients offering innovative or disruptive communications technologies. My recent work has included advising on the provision of cloud-hosted communications services (including UCaaS/CCaaS and P2P/A2P platforms), the deployment of Low Earth Orbit satellite constellations, 5G rollouts and IoT applications.

I have complementary experience in competition law and advise on a range of transactional, contentious and advisory matters, particularly in relation to telco access under the CCA and issues arising in connection with digital platforms and other emerging technologies.
