Carlos van Staveren

I am a Partner in our Intellectual Property practice in Amsterdam. I focus on technology-related matters and patent law in particular.

I litigate on a broad range of sectors and have been involved in numerous landmark patent proceedings in the Netherlands, the EPO and before the UPC. I have extensive experience handling and coordinating multijurisdictional and pan-European patent proceedings. My practice is now strongly focussed on the UPC, where I am involved in some of the largest pending UPC cases.

JUVE patents lists me as 'One to Watch' in 2024. I was nominated for the Rising Star Europe award at the LMG Life Sciences Europe Awards 2024 and am recognised as a rising star by Legal500, MIP and IAM Patents. In 2019 I won the Rising Star Netherlands award at the European MIP awards.

I am the co-author of the leading international handbook on Patent Protection for Second Medical Uses and I teach patent law at the Erasmus University Rotterdam.
