Bird & Bird is pleased to announce the promotion of one partner as well as 16 Counsel across its offices. The firm also welcomes three lateral Counsel hires and a Senior Consultant in Finland.

Partner Promotion

 Shing Lo - London, UK

Shing is a member of our Corporate practice. She specialises in venture capital, private equity and mergers and acquisitions transactions, with a strong focus on developing our international venture capital practice. Shing maintains active English and Australian law practices, and has deep knowledge of both the UK and Australian venture capital markets.

 Emilie Barbezieux-Jarry - Paris, France

Emilie is a member of our Corporate team. Her expertise covers a wide variety of corporate transactions including private equity, minority or majority investments, merger and acquisitions and restructuring matters. Emilie regularly advises French and foreign companies and institutional investors in respect of their acquisitions, transfers and/or investments.


Alexander Benalal - Madrid, Spain

Alexander is a member of our Commercial, Tech & Comms and Dispute Resolution Groups. His experience includes all kinds of commercial contracts and transactions, with a specific focus in IT and sectors where technology and complex regulatory frameworks play a key role; plus complex dispute resolution and pre-litigation negotiations.


Pablo Berenguer - Madrid, Spain

Pablo is part of our Commercial, Dispute Resolution and Tech & Comms Groups. He advises on a range of local and international commercial projects and disputes (litigation and arbitration), with particular focus on Tech sector matters and technology-dependent industries.


Lionel Berthelet - Lyon, France

Lionel is a member of our Corporate team. His expertise covers all aspects of mergers and acquisitions, venture capital and private equity transactions, including due diligence; negotiating and drafting term sheets; shareholders', joint venture and investment agreements; share and asset transfer agreements and all ancillary contractual and corporate documentation.


Paula Fernández-Longoria - Madrid, Spain

Paula is a member of our Tech & Comms and Commercial Groups. She has a data protection and privacy sector focus, providing advice to both national and international clients. Paula also manages the day to day activities of the data protection and privacy practice in Madrid.


Marc Grunwald - Munich, Germany

Marc is a member of our IP group. He focuses on IP litigation, with a particular emphasis on patent litigation. He works with clients in various industries (mechanics, automotive, electronics and medical products) and has experience with lawsuits in multiple jurisdictions. Marc has a special focus on clients in the Automotive and Tech & Comms sector. Furthermore, Marc is a certified IP lawyer ("Fachanwalt für Gewerblichen Rechtsschutz") and a regular speaker on conferences of GRUR and VPP.


Bálint Halász - Budapest, Hungary

Bálint heads the IP group in our Budapest team. He has advised on a range of contentious IP matters for both national and international clients from various industry sectors, including electronics, pharmaceuticals and IT. Bálint has extensive experience in relation to patents, trade marks, designs, copyright, unfair competition and customs measures. His practice areas also include IT, privacy and data protection law, and he has a degree in computer science.


Chris Ivey - Lyon, France

Chris is a member of our Employment group. A native English speaker, Chris also speaks fluent French and works extensively with international companies conducting business in France, particularly on French employment issues relating to corporate transactions and cross-border projects. His   experience includes coordinating Europe-wide restructuring plans and working on multi-jurisdictional projects, as well as day-to-day employment matters for a wide range of clients.


Christian Lindenthal - Munich, Germany

Christian is a member of IP group. He advises clients in all fields of soft IP law (trademarks, designs and unfair competition), but has a particular specialisation in advising clients from heavily regulated industries, most notably from the life sciences sector, but also from related sectors such as food & beverages and cosmetics.


Julia Natzel - Hamburg, Germany

Julia is a member of our IP group. She advises clients on trademarks, unfair competition, designs, copyrights, licence agreements, and domains. Her practice covers the whole range of soft IP work for clients in various sectors, including fashion, health care and media.


Céline Nézet - Paris, France

Céline is a member of our Corporate Restructuring team and also has expertise in commercial litigation. She advises her clients at all stages of business restructurings, whether conducted out of court or in court-controlled processes, as well as in disputes arising in relation to restructurings. Additionally, she has developed a strong expertise in commercial litigation.


Jacobo Sanchez-Andrade - Madrid, Spain

Jacobo is a member of our Real Estate group. He has deep knowledge and extensive experience in the real estate market and has provided legal advice to both local and international clients on some of the most significant real estate deals in the Spanish market.


Risto Sandvik - Helsinki, Finland

Risto is part of our dispute resolution practice group. He has experience and expertise in international and domestic arbitration and in resolving complex disputes in litigation. His practice mainly comprises contentious work pertaining to construction contracts, shareholders' agreements and financing agreements. Risto also holds a B.Sc. in computer science and he is passionate about cyber security.


Jean-Baptiste Thiénot - Paris, France

Jean-Baptiste is a member of our IP department. His work covers a wide range of IP related work with a particular focus on patent litigation. He also has a strong knowledge of the Life Science sector and regularly advises clients on regulatory matters.


Djazia Tiourtite - Paris, France

Djazia is a member of our Dispute Resolution team. She is also a member of the Commercial and Tech & Comms sector groups. Her practice covers a wide range of commercial and civil liability disputes (unfair competition, distribution, breach of agreement, breakdown of established contractual relationships, failure of IT and industrial projects).


Thomas Urband - Munich, Germany

Thomas is a member of our IP group. He specialises across the fields of IP and media law and advises clients on all aspects of trade mark, competition and copyright matters. His work on behalf of both national and international clients includes strategic advice, litigation as well as drafting of contracts. Thomas also has strong experience with transactional IP matters, having supported the acquisitions of a large number of companies mainly in the digital business.

We welcomed the following Counsel/Senior Consultant lateral hires in the last six months:

Tobias Bräutigam - Helsinki, Finland

Tobias has joined as Counsel in our Privacy and Data Protection Group. He joins from Microsoft, where he was a senior legal counsel with responsibility for privacy and data protection. Tobias specialises in advising on a range of Finnish and international data compliance projects, including the implementation of global data management strategies, international data transfers and local data protection compliance.


Alik Dörn - Frankfurt, Germany

Alik joined as Counsel in the International Energy & Utilities Sector Group and is also a Member of our Regulatory & Administrative Practice Group. He advises German and international clients on energy, regulatory, state aid, public procurement and environmental law matters as well as other regulatory and administrative issues such as municipal law. His client base ranges from public bodies, municipal utilities and energy supply companies to (general) contractors and developers as well as project companies.


Andrew Robinson - Hong Kong

Andrew is Counsel in our IP department. He is a skilled litigation solicitor with nearly 20 years’ experience in brand protection. He has led many successful investigations and enforcement actions against the manufacture, distribution and in-market retail of counterfeit and other illicit products throughout Asia Pacific including China, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.


Hampus Vallien - Stockholm, Finland

Hampus has joined our Tech & Comms team as a Senior Consultant. He previously worked for us at the turn of the millennium, and joined the mobile operator 3 (previously one of his clients at Bird & Bird) in 2003. From 2005 he served as 3's Head of Legal, responsible for commercial law. During his time with the operator, he built and led a team of six corporate lawyers.
