Bird and Bird advised Marubeni Corporation on the acquisition of Aquagreen.

We are thrilled to announce that Bird & Bird Denmark has advised Marubeni Corporation on their acquisition of shares in AquaGreen ApS through a third-party allotment.

Our corporate and M&A team in Denmark has advised Marubeni Corporation on their acquisition of shares through a third-party allotment in AquaGreen Holding ApS, a Danish company with technology that can dry and pyrolyze wet biomass, such as sewage sludge generated during wastewater treatment, to produce biochar and in this process eliminate PFAS and organic pollutants whilst preserving and recirculating precious nutrients.

Marubeni, a major Japanese integrated trading and investment business conglomerate that handles products and provides services in a broad range says: ‘’To complement its knowhow cultivated in the water business, Marubeni will participate in the sewage sludge treatment field through its involvement with AquaGreen, with the aim of providing an even greater range of water services while contributing to the resolution of societal challenges such as environmental issues and decarbonization”.

The core team consisting of Mette Mernø Hans Jakobsen (Partner), Martin von Haller Groenbaek (Partner), Johan Ingerslev (Counsel) and Ryoko Nekoto Bird (Senior Japan Lead who supported from the business development side) delivered outstanding support throughout the transaction.
