Bird & Bird advises Software Defined Automation on its successful flip into the United States and Series Seed Financing Round

International law firm Bird & Bird has advised Munich-based tech start-up Software Defined Automation GmbH on its successful flip into the United States and a USD 10 Mio. Series Seed financing round. Lead investor was the US Venture Capital firm Insight Partners and included the investors First Momentum, Fly VC and Business Angels.

Software Defined Automation provides SaaS solutions for industrial automation to create independence from vendor specific hardware. The flip to the United States offers SDA the opportunity to an expansion of operations as well as to tap into additional ways of funding which was essentially realised with Insight Partners.

Insight Partners is a specialist in software scale-up investments, accelerating growth for companies in emerging tech markets. They are among the top Venture Capital investors to take European start-ups to the global stage.

Software Defined Automation was advised by the following Bird & Bird lawyers: the team was led by Andrea Schlote (counsel, Corporate), Stefan Münch (partner, Corporate) and Janine Lanfermann-Schmid (associate, Corporate). Partner Rolf Schmich from SZA advised on tax issues.

For US law, the team worked in conjunction with a team from Cooley LLP partner Michael McGrail, associates Jonathan D. Robertson and Sydney Sachs, (all Boston, M&A), partner Aaron Pomeroy, (Denver, Tax), partner Alexander Lee and associate Rick Jantz (both Los Angeles, Tax).
