Bird & Bird hires a new financing team in Hamburg

Bird & Bird LLP appoints project finance expert Alexander I. M. Wojtek as a partner in Hamburg. Joining with him are associates Volkan Top and Michele Bering. Alexander started on March 16, 2021; the two associates will join subsequently.

Alexander has been a partner at Luther since 2018. Previously, he worked for Clifford Chance and The Royal Bank of Scotland in Frankfurt and London, and for Watson, Farley & Williams in Hamburg. He advises banks, alternative debt funds, institutional investors and sponsors on project financings, joint ventures as well as M&A and other strategic transactions in connection with renewable energy and infrastructure projects. He focuses on advising on national and international project financings, especially on the financing of offshore and onshore wind farms as well as solar parks.

Bird & Bird's managing partner in Germany, Sven-Erik Heun, is delighted with the growth: "Developments in recent years have proven that we are excellently positioned internationally and nationally through our sector-focused teams within the Finance & Financial Regulation practice group and have an outstanding reputation, particularly in areas such as fintech, telecoms, aviation and rail. Supporting this strategy, Alexander Wojtek's expertise, particularly in the area of renewable energy, makes him an excellent fit with our practice and we warmly welcome him and his team."

Dr Michael Jünemann, partner and co-head of Bird & Bird's international Finance & Financial Regulation practice group, says: "We are very pleased to welcome Alexander Wojtek, Volkan Top and Michele Bering to our team. Their focus on renewable energy projects fits perfectly with our strategic plan to strengthen our international project finance group in the energy sector, which is already well regarded in the market. The new team members are another building block that will enable us to not only expand our international financing expertise, particularly in the energy sector, but also in other sectors, and to cover the advisory needs of existing and new clients."

Alexander I. M. Wojtek comments: "Bird & Bird's sector-focused approach and its international positioning as a true global law firm offer our team an excellent perspective to support existing and new clients in the realisation of large-volume, international renewable energy and infrastructure projects. Bird & Bird's long-term national and international expansion of the renewables and infrastructure practice areas is impressive. My team and I look forward to bolstering Bird & Bird’s capabilities in this area.
