Bird & Bird boosts its Energy & Utilities sector group with the appointment of Conrad Purcell as partner in London

International law firm Bird & Bird today appoints energy and projects specialist, Conrad Purcell, as a partner in its Energy & Utilities sector group, based in London.

Conrad advises on all aspects of financing energy and infrastructure projects, including onshore and offshore wind farms, coal, hydro and biomass power projects as well as conventional thermal power and infrastructure projects. He specialises in structuring, drafting and negotiating finance and security documents as well as commercial agreements like construction contracts, joint venture and shareholder agreements and power purchase agreements.

Conrad joins from Eversheds Sutherland where he was a partner in the energy and projects team. His practice is international, with extensive experience managing transactions for clients in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

This appointment, alongside the recent arrival of Pierpaolo Mastromarini in Italy, is a key part of the Energy & Utilities group's strategy to expand its projects and project finance offering, in order to best support clients in the sector.

Matt Bonass, Co-Head of the Energy & Utilities Sector Group at Bird & Bird says:

As the world moves towards decarbonised economies coupled with an increased need for the provision of essential utilities, the way in which projects are structured and delivered is evolving with the inclusion of complex new technologies and innovation.  Conrad's extensive experience and contacts, particularly in the project finance space, will strengthen our capabilities in these areas in London and internationally as well as enhance our ability to service our clients’ large, ground breaking infrastructure projects"

Conrad says:

Bird & Bird's international framework and strong experience advising on major energy and infrastructure projects provides me with the ideal platform to strengthen the firm's Energy & Utilities sector group. I am very much looking forward to working with my colleagues in London and across the Bird & Bird network.”
