From cartridges to games on demand: is the video game industry following Netflix’s example?

A series of recent IP and studio acquisitions by videogame giants Sony and Microsoft appear to herald the beginning of a new way to consume videogames, one which is very similar to video on-demand services that have become a staple in home entertainment thanks to streaming platforms like Netflix. This digital transformation provides benefits for both videogame companies and consumers and reinforces the adage that ‘content is king’. But is this truly the future of gaming?
