Update on Online Harms: Legislative Reforms in Australia and the UK

The regulation of online disinformation and harmful content is the subject of global attention. Australia is progressing world-first reforms in this area along with the United Kingdom (UK). In a key milestone, the Australian Online Safety Bill 2021 was introduced into Parliament on 24 February 2021.

Following amendments by the Senate Environment and Communications Legislation Committee, the Australian Bill is currently before the Senate. This article lays out key developments in Online Harms legislation in Australia and the UK.
