Practice Training Contracts and Internships

Practice Training Contracts

Applications Open: Practice Training Contract (PTC)/Relevant Legal Training (RLT) for Year 2027

Duration to apply: 1 July to 30 September 2024.

At Bird & Bird ATMD, we structure our practice training programme to ensure that our trainees will have relevant hands-on experience in their chosen area of practice.

As a trainee, you will work closely with your Supervising Solicitor and be part of his/her team from day one to learn – not just legal knowledge through research and discussions, but also practical skills honed through training assignments and drafting of advice and documents for clients. You will also have the opportunity to develop and personalise your own client management skills, through shadowing your Supervising Solicitor and colleagues at client conference calls and meetings. In addition, you will be given the chance to undertake the day to day work on cases assigned to you as you follow the matter from start to end.

Further, you may also assist and learn from other partners and associates on matters in other practice areas in order to hone your skills as a well-rounded lawyer. We have an open-door working environment which encourages collegiality and collaboration.

We offer internships to law students who would like to gain exposure to the business of legal practice. Our internships provide the opportunity for interns to experience the daily life of a practising lawyer in our firm, as well as for us to assess and identify potential candidates for training contracts.

Our internships are typically two to four weeks in duration in June or December. Through our internship programme, interns are assigned to a mentor who will involve the intern in the day to day work and can expect to attend court proceedings, client meetings and assist in legal research and the preparation of legal documents.
