The AI Regulation requires Member States to designate supervisory authorities and provide for appropriate sanctions and enforcement measures by 2 August 2025. The Minister of internal affairs has announced that the Netherlands will not be ready for appointing supervisory authorities before 2 August 2025.
The Dutch data protection authority and the Inspection for digital infrastructures have issued a proposal for the governance of the AI regulatory sandbox in the Netherlands. The aim of this proposal is to lay a solid foundation for the further cooperation and coordination needed to launch a definitive sandbox by August 2026 at the latest.
