We have anti-bribery and anti-corruption policies and procedures which apply to all our employees worldwide. These policies prohibit the making, offering or promising to make a payment or transfer anything of value, including the provision of any service, gift or entertainment, on our behalf, by all such employees, for any improper purpose or business advantage. They specifically prohibit such dealings with government personnel and other officials for the purpose of improperly obtaining or retaining business or for any other improper purpose or business advantage. We expect anyone providing services to or seeking to win business from us, to have similar policies.
We implement anti-money laundering (AML) policies which comply with the legal requirements of the jurisdictions in which we operate and which we apply globally across the Firm. We undertake AML due diligence to verify the identity of new clients and where required conduct background checks. We periodically refresh our due diligence on existing clients. Our AML polices require that suspicions of money laundering are reported to appropriate authorities in accordance with our legal obligations. These obligations may override our duties of confidentiality to you.
Bird & Bird is committed to conducting its business in compliance with all applicable tax law and practice, including the Criminal Finances Act 2017. We recognise the importance of ensuring the business pays the right and proper amount of tax and understand that collecting and paying tax is an important contribution to the government authorities in the countries we operate. We will not tolerate any of our partners, employees, agents or business partners knowingly assisting or encouraging tax fraud by any of the clients, suppliers or others that we do business with anywhere in the world. The firm has a policy, endorsed by its Board, requiring all staff and partners to fully comply with their tax obligations and to report any tax evasion. We have whistleblowing procedures in place to support reporting of tax evasion and other wrongdoing.
