Franchise regulation

There is no specific franchise law in the UAE. If the franchise agreement falls within the definition of a commercial agency under the Commercial Agency Law, the formalities of this law determine the requirements for registration and enforceability.

No, however if the agreement qualifies under the Commercial Agency Law the franchisee may elect to register the franchise agreement as a commercial agency agreement.

Other issues

If the Commercial Agency Law applies and the franchise agreement is registered, the Commercial Agency Law will override the franchise agreement to the extent of any inconsistency.
