Shona O'Connell

I am a senior associate in the Commercial team in London, specialising in advertising, consumer law and digital regulation.

I advise brands and creative agencies devise, create and produce both national and global advertising campaigns and sales promotions. I am experienced at providing clearance advice and helping clients to respond to ASA complaints and investigations. I have particular expertise drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts in the advertising sector including client / agency agreements, media buying agreements, talent / influencer agreements, content creation agreements and production agreements. I have a keen interest in sustainability and I regularly advise clients on how to make and substantiate green claims so as to ensure that they are not misleading.

I also support consumer brands in a variety of sectors to cut through the growing body of consumer laws and regulations to understand how to interact with consumers in the UK and Europe, both online and offline. This includes advising on customer terms and conditions, user journeys, cancellation rights and customer remedies. I am particularly interested in helping US platforms to expand into the UK and across Europe.

I have a strong interest in design and always seek to provide my legal advice in a way that can be easily digested by various internal stakeholders. I pride myself on my commercial and pragmatic approach to legal issues and I always welcome a good old-fashioned phone call!
