István Szalay

I am a Trainee Associate in the Corporate group in the Budapest office at Bird & Bird.

It is a pleasure to be working for such a truly international law firm and to assist clients in corporate related matters.

I graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Eötvös Loránd University with a specialisation in civil law, in 2022. During my university years I became passionate about corporate law, corporate transactions and disputes related to their operations.

To gain international experience I spent a semester in the Netherlands at Tilburg University as an Erasmus exchange student, where I also had the opportunity to study competition law and international arbitration.

In 2022, I achieved third place in the Dr Nagy László Private Law Moot Competition organised by our Budapest office and achieved first place in the National Criminal Law Closing Argument Competition in Miskolc. These competitions offered a great learning experience for developing a variety of skills, which I hope to capitalise on when representing our clients in the future.

In addition to my native Hungarian, I speak English and have a good understanding of German.
