Richard is a flexible, commercially minded and proactive lawyer with significant experience in handling a wide range of risk management, contentious and regulatory issues faced by sports organisations.

Richard is a senior associate in our Media, Entertainment & Sports Group, based in London.

He advises on a range of sports-related issues including challenges to regulatory decisions, rules and regulations, disciplinary matters (including doping and corruption cases), child protection/safeguarding, and commercial dispute resolution. He has acted for numerous international and national governing bodies, event organisers, clubs, other rights holders and individuals across a range of sports including football, motor sports, rugby union, cricket, and tennis.

Richard joined us in 2016 from a leading sports law boutique. Prior to that, he was part of The FA's in-house legal team for  three years, during which time he provided legal support across a full range of contentious and corporate risk management issues, developing a deep understanding of the legal and wider challenges sports governing bodies and other participants face. Since joining us, Richard has completed an in-house secondment with UK Anti-Doping, serving as Head of Case Management.

He has represented clients before a range of dispute resolution forums domestically and internationally, including the English courts, CAS, domestic disciplinary tribunals, FA Rule K arbitration, and the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber.

Richard was appointed by The FA to the County Disciplinary (Anti-Discrimination) FA Chairman’s Panel in 2014 and in February 2017 he was appointed as a founding member of the Esport Integrity Coalition's Disciplinary Panel. He studied law at the University of Leeds, where he graduated with a First Class LLB (Hons) degree and was awarded the Hughes Scholar Prize (presented to an Outstanding Graduate). Richard also holds postgraduate qualifications in sports law and the management of sport governing bodies.
