A specialist commercial lawyer with a particular focus on the automotive and energy sectors
Matthias Spilker is counsel in our commercial group and he's based in both Frankfurt and Düsseldorf offices. He is a member of the Automotive and Commercial Practice Groups.
Advising domestic and international clients on a variety of commercial law matters, Matthias' practice predominantly comprises product liability cases as well as advising on and negotiating complex commercial contracts and standard agreements.
He works with automotive clients, including suppliers and insurance companies, advising on e.g. field actions, recalls, price negotiations, delivery stops and termination of supply contracts. Matthias also advises on issues regarding contract law and risk management. His other area of expertise is the energy sector with a particular focus on wind energy, mainly in the area of contract law.
Matthias studied law in Marburg and Münster. Following a scientific engagement at the universities of Münster and Lyon, he completed Master's degree in International Commercial Law in Bristol, England. In 2009 he received his PhD from the University of Münster and was admitted to the bar in 2010.
Matthias gives regular presentations on automotive supply matters, liability issues, standard terms and contract law in the energy sector. He authored several publications on International Sales Law and Corporate Law which were published in Germany and the U.S.. He is a member of the Frankfurt/Main bar and of the German Group of the French Association Henri Capitant.
