Bird & Bird has published our updated report for 2019 on international Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (Corporate PPAs).

Large corporations are continuing to set the agenda for the growth of renewable energy across the globe. Large corporations are continuing to set the agenda for the growth of renewable energy across the globe. Corporations globally purchased 7.2 gigawatts of clean power directly from generators in January to July 2018 under a Corporate Renewable Power Purchase Agreement (Corporate PPA) (surpassing the previous record of 5.4 gigawatts for the whole of 2017). Corporate PPAs enable corporate consumers to procure renewable power directly from renewable generators, without necessarily being co-located, and allows both corporate consumers and generators to take advantage of a range of economic, reputational and sustainability benefits.

This report looks at the main drivers behind the growth of Corporate PPAs, the threats and opportunities relevant to their deployment, strategies for how they can be implemented and provides an in depth analysis on the market for them in key jurisdictions across Western and Eastern Europe, the Nordics and Asia-Pac.
