Bird & Bird achieves Mansfield Rule Certification in the UK

International law firm Bird & Bird has successfully achieved Mansfield Rule Certification in the UK as part of the firm’s commitment to diversity and inclusion for all employees.

Last summer, Bird & Bird became one of the first law firms to join the pilot of the Mansfield Rule UK. The aim of Mansfield is to boost diversity in law firms by broadening the pool of candidates considered for a number of roles. In order to achieve Mansfield certification, the firm must affirmatively consider, as at least 30% of the candidates, lawyers who are women, lawyers from underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, lawyers living with disabilities, and lawyers who identify as LGBTQ+ for:

  • Equity partner promotions
  • Newly Qualified positions and lateral fee earner recruitment
  • Appointment to practice/sector group and office head leadership positions
  • Election or appointment to Management, Executive & Strategic Committees and/or Board level
  • Election to Chairperson
  • Participation in formal client pitches

Whilst formal Mansfield certification is only currently possible in the UK, the firm’s objective will be to adopt these principles across Bird & Bird’s international network, including legal and Business Services departments.
