Bird & Bird becomes pro-bono partner of FEDORA to support sustainability, equality and digital transformation in performing arts

International law firm Bird & Bird has become the global legal pro-bono partner of FEDORA – The European Circle of Philanthropists of Opera and Ballet. FEDORA is the European platform driving innovation in opera and ballet by advocating sustainability, equality and inclusion and digital transformation measures in the performing arts.

FEDORA is a non-profit organisation at the forefront of cultural and artistic creation and philanthropy, with 96 member organisations in 26 countries. It is co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Commission. Its ‘Next Stage’ initiative in collaboration with Opera Europa will work across backstage, on stage and beyond stage elements, focusing on:

  • Sustainability: including facility management, energy consumption, carbon footprint, waste management and reduction and audience mobility;

  • Equality: ensuring diversity of artists, repertory, creative teams and administrative workforce, and audiences (in age, social background, economic background, disabilities); and

  • Digital Transformation: opening new paths for artistic creation, optimising work flow and coherence between services and reaching larger, more diverse audiences

Bird & Bird will provide international legal support to FEDORA and its initiatives on a pro-bono basis. The strategic vision of the imitative aligns closely with the firm’s values.

David Kerr, CEO, Bird & Bird says: “As any business or organisation adapts and innovates, they need a partner that’s hardwired to anticipate and maximise the opportunities in change.
