Bird & Bird advises SWGT on the project financing of a 30MW UK battery storage

Bird & Bird LLP has advised Still Waters Green Technology Limited (SWGT) to reach financial close in connection with the acquisition, development and project financing of a 30MW battery storage project in Swindon, England.

SWGT acquired the right to develop the project from Public Power Solutions Limited and subsequently completed the design and procurement required to construct the project. SWGT selected Santander, a leading lender to the UK renewable energy sector, to provide project financing for the construction of the project.

Bird & Bird LLP advised SWGT on all aspects of the development and financing of the project through a combined team of specialists based in London. The Bird & Bird team was led by projects partner Conrad Purcell together with real estate partner Peter Nicholson and associates Charlie White and Tom Hepplewhite.

Conrad Purcell, partner at Bird & Bird, comments:

"We are delighted to have assisted SWGT on this important transaction. Battery storage will play an increasingly important part in the decarbonisation of our power sector and this project is a good example of the kind of projects we will need many more of in future. The fact that this deal was closed during a period of COVID lockdown is a credit to all involved."
