International law firm Bird & Bird grows its Tech & Comms sector group with the appointment of technology lawyer Jeremy Tan as a partner in Singapore and Gigi Cheah as a senior consultant for the Asia Pacific region.

Jeremy Tan

As an international technology practitioner and head of the commercial and TMT practice at his previous firm, Jeremy has extensive experience in commercial and technology transactions including advising on multi-jurisdiction sourcing projects. He regularly advises clients on digital transformation and Industry 4.0 initiatives involving cyber-security, data privacy, communications and new technologies such as distributed ledger technology and artificial intelligence. Jeremy was recently named in Chambers and Partners Asia-Pacific as one of the most "up and coming" lawyers, ranked in Legal 500 Asia Pacific as a "Next Generation Partner" and recognised at the Lexology Client Choice awards as a leading practitioner in Singapore in IT & Internet law.

A key part of Bird & Bird's Tech & Comms sector group strategy is to expand its offering in Singapore and regionally to further develop the firm's strong reputation in the technology and communications space in Asia Pacific.

Gigi Cheah

Gigi Cheah, a highly regarded and experienced TMT lawyer, brings significant international and cross border experience in the technology sector, across the Asia Pacific region. She has built and led Asia based technology teams within other international US and UK headquartered firms and brings with her invaluable insights and considerable technology and communications experience, supporting Bird & Bird's global vision.

Lorraine Tay and Sandra Seah, co-heads of Bird & Bird Singapore comment: "We are delighted to welcome Jeremy and Gigi to Bird & Bird. A core component of our strategy in Singapore is to develop our transactional capabilities. Jeremy's stellar reputation in the technology field will not only provide us with access to more regional opportunities but it will also reinforce our reputation in Asia Pacific as one of the leading firms advising clients in the technology and communications sector"

Ted Chwu, co-head of the Tech & Comms sector group at Bird & Bird says: "Jeremy and Gigi's arrival at Bird & Bird will significantly bolster our Tech & Comms team and capabilities in Singapore and the region. Their combined and longstanding expertise in multi-jurisdictional sourcing and outsourcing arrangements, commercial transactions and technology tenders, will benefit the Tech & Comms sector group throughout Asia Pacific and integrates well with our key competencies. It's a pleasure to welcome Jeremy and Gigi to the team and we look forward to having them on board."

Jeremy added: "What attracted me the most to Bird & Bird was the firm's renowned international scope in the TMT sector and its first-rate technology expertise in Asia-Pacific. Bird & Bird will enable me to grow my practice, strengthen client relationships and allow for greater exposure to high quality TMT work. I look forward to joining the team!"
