Bird & Bird appoints Jan Byström as a partner in Stockholm, expanding its Nordic Corporate group

International law firm Bird & Bird appoints Jan Byström, a highly experienced M&A lawyer, in the Stockholm office, expanding its Nordic Corporate group.

Having worked throughout his career for a number of international law firms, Jan joins from Byström Rooth & Partners, his own boutique transactional firm. He has more than 20 years' experience assisting domestic and international clients on private equity, M&A and corporate development transactions, both within the Nordic region and internationally. He is ranked as a leading corporate/M&A and private equity lawyer in Chambers Europe (2017) and IFLR1000 (2018). He is qualified in both Sweden and New York.

Jan primarily advises private equity investors on Nordic buy-out and venture capital transactions. He also advises Nordic corporate clients on cross-border mergers and acquisitions as well as international corporate clients, particularly US corporations, on in-bound Nordic cross-border transactions.

Mårten Willamo, Head of Sweden at Bird & Bird says: "Jan's appointment is an important part of our strategy as we focus on bolstering our Corporate M&A and private equity practice in the Nordic region. Jan's transactional experience, both in Sweden, the financial centre of the Nordic region, and internationally will strengthen our reputation within this key sector of the market."

Peter Veranneman and Stefano Silvestri, co-heads of the International Corporate group at Bird & Bird comment: "At Bird & Bird, the Corporate team often plays an important role across different sector groups within the firm, particularly on M&A and private equity transactions in the Tech & Comms sector group. The appointment of Jan in our Corporate practice will not only increase our ability to advise clients across the Nordic region but it will also strengthen our capabilities in the US  and internationally."

Jan adds: Bird & Bird's international footprint and sector-focussed approach, especially in the Tech & Comms arena, offers me the ideal platform to better assist clients. I am very much looking forward to joining the firm and working with my new Nordic and international colleagues."
