International law firm Bird & Bird LLP secured two recognitions from Airfinance Journal in its 2016 Deals of the Year Awards. The awards recognise notable transactions in aviation finance market.
The awards were 'Most Innovative Deal of the Year' and 'Sale and Leaseback Deal of the Year'. With over 130 submissions, comprising 80 unique transactions valued at approximately $50 billion, winning these awards is a huge achievement. The winners were selected by a judging panel of senior aviation finance executives, including Bertrand Grabowski (former board member and head of aircraft finance at DVB Bank), Jeff Knittel (president of CIT Transportation & International Finance) and Norm Liu (former CEO and chairman of GECAS).
Jim Bell, Partner at Bird & Bird says: "We have an excellent team of friendly, dynamic and highly skilled people who have been working on some of the biggest transactions in the market. The winning deals evidence core strengths like operating leasing but also showcase our lesser-known capabilities like debt capital markets, funds and Islamic finance."
Bird & Bird has also appointed Robin Hallam as a consultant to join the Aviation Finance team who was formerly at Hogan Lovells.
With over 35 years' experience in asset finance, Robin brings a wealth of finance expertise and is noted as a Senior Statesman in Chambers.
Robin Hallam says: "I am very excited to join the Aviation Finance team at Bird & Bird. The team has a lot of energy and drive and it is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a practice that is growing. I look forward to contributing to the team's continued success."
