Gambling in France was historically completely prohibited due to the Roman Catholic church’s stance on the pastime. In modern times, gambling on games of chance is banned as part of the French Code of Homeland Security (2012). However, over the last decade, there have been several exemptions granted which allow certain gambling activities, subject to strict regulations and licensing.
