Anti-counterfeiting measures in the ASEAN region

According to a 2019 report by the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development), the trade in counterfeit goods amounted to as much as 3.3% of world trade, and is expected to continue to rise.

Counterfeiting occurs both on a small and large scale throughout the world, and is part of an industry with an estimated value of many billions of dollars. It is not limited to cheap imitations of famous brands, and has grown with the proliferation of online shopping. In a world where everything, from clothing to pharmaceuticals, car parts to memory cards and watches to DVDs might be counterfeit, fighting piracy and counterfeiting, both in the real world and online, has become a priority for businesses.

Against this backdrop, Bird & Bird is jointly organizing a seminar with subject matter experts from Spire Research and Consulting Group. We will briefly discuss the threats of counterfeiting in the ASEAN region, strategies for fighting counterfeiting, how companies can develop a structured anti-counterfeiting program, and potential legal issues relating to intellectual property right issues in the region.

Note: Priority for this event will be extended to in-house counsel and corporates.
