EU AI Act for developers

The upcoming seminar, part of Bird & Bird’s Nordic AI roadshow, on the EU AI Act, expected to be enacted in 2024, is an essential event for developers of AI systems and applications.

This session will provide an in-depth look at several critical aspects of the AI Act from the perspective developers of AI both internal teams of developers in companies that plan to use AI in their IT systems or application and those in tech startups.

Firstly, it will offer an overview of the latest draft text of the EU AI Act, focusing on its implications and updates. Secondly, the seminar will delve into the risk-based model of AI regulation, an approach that categorises AI systems based on their potential impact and associated risks.

A significant portion of the seminar will be dedicated to discussing the regulation of generative AI foundational models, referred to as LGAIM in the text of the EU AI Act draft. This will include an examination of how these models are currently treated under the Act and the potential challenges and opportunities this presents for developers.

Moreover, the seminar will explore the specific regulations surrounding open-source LGAIM within the context of the EU AI Act. This is a crucial area of interest for developers engaged in open-source projects and collaborative AI development.

Lastly, the session will address whether the EU AI Act or adjacent legislation proposes any supportive measures such as grants or financial aid to assist EU-based AI developers.

Additionally, the seminar will touch upon other legal challenges that AI developers might need to consider, which extend beyond the scope of the current EU AI Act draft.

This comprehensive agenda ensures that participants will gain a thorough understanding of the upcoming EU AI Act and its implications for the field of AI development.
