I'm the co-managing partner of Bird & Bird's Italian offices. As an expert in financial regulation, I head our Italian banking and financial services regulatory team. I jointly lead our International Finance & Financial Regulation Group.

In Milan and Rome, I manage a team of 18 professionals with banking, insurance and financial markets regulation expertise, in areas including bank capital requirements, derivatives, asset management, investment services, activities performed by way of establishment and in freedom of services, insurance and bank assurance, public offerings and pension funds.

I have a high level of expertise in contentious regulatory issues and enforcement matters. I assist primary financial operators and key individuals in proceedings before national courts and local regulatory bodies for alleged violation of laws and regulations.

I support banks, investment managers and other financial intermediaries in defining and drafting internal procedures and manuals, and in the implementation of any relevant law and regulation.

Moreover, I assist Italian and international asset management companies in regards to the structuring of alternative investment funds, with particular focus on real estate and private equity. I also advise alternative fund managers in their ordinary and extraordinary operations, as well as in their investment and divestment transactions.

Before joining Bird & Bird in 2003, I worked in the financial intermediaries department at CONSOB (National commission for Companies and the Stock Exchange) acquiring extensive knowledge and experience in European asset management and financial services regulation.

  • I appeared in the proceeding at the Constitutional Court leading to a seminal development in the law: judgment n. 63 of 21.3.2019 declared unconstitutional a statute providing that a new law, mitigating administrative sanctions for market abuse, would not apply to previous conducts. The Court held that the principle of 'favor rei' is mandatory on constitutional grounds, and that the new mitigating law must apply.
