James has experience in a wide range of intellectual property matters, with a focus on transactional IP work
James is an associate in Bird & Bird's Intellectual Property practice, based in London.
James' practice is centred around advising clients on a variety of transactional IP work. He has growing experience of advising clients in relation to the transfer of intellectual property rights, both in the context of stand alone transactions or as part of complex corporate matters including international M&A and investment transactions.
As a transactional IP lawyer, James also advises on the commercialisation and exploitation of intellectual property rights, primarily in relation to the licensing of software, trade marks and patents. He has worked with clients across a variety of sectors including media and entertainment, technology, sport, and healthcare and life sciences.
James has also been seconded to the in-house legal team of EE where he acquired a valuable insight into the role of legal advice in business decision-making. During this time James advised the business on marketing and advertising law, as well as on a broad range of contentious and non-contentious intellectual property matters, largely in relation to trade marks, passing off and copyright.
James' also contributes legal publications to Bird & Bird's media-focused news hub MediaWrites (www.mediawrites.law).
James joined Bird & Bird in 2013, qualifying into the Intellectual Property team in 2015.
