Alberto De Ros

I am a patent attorney in the Intellectual Property Group in Milan where I deal with both patent prosecution and patent litigation. I assist clients in the technology sector including mechanics, electronics, telecoms and software.

I am qualified as an Italian and European patent, design and trademark attorney and I have a pre-qualification as European patent litigator. I practise both patent prosecution and patent litigation work and understand that carefully drafting a patent application is essential for its successful prosecution until the grant/issuance of a broad patent, and, as a consequence, I prepare applications in Italian and English for local and overseas clients.

I assist clients prior to the drafting phase, for example in selecting inventions to be protected through e.g. patent applications or utility model applications and in choosing which countries to seek protection. I take care of patent prosecutions in Italy, at the EPO and the WIPO, and through local agents in other countries, especially the US, China and Japan. I work side-by-side with lawyers in litigation assignments to increase our effectiveness.

I am often involved in patent litigation covering several jurisdictions so I have a chance to cooperate with colleagues (patent attorneys and lawyers) in other offices in the firm; this is specifically the case for litigation in the field of telecoms and the relative preparatory work.

I enjoy dealing with new technologies and businesses. This requires in-depth understanding that I obtain not only through personal study but also through contact with the technical and commercial experts of my clients. I find that visiting the clients allows me to be more effective for prosecution and litigation work.

I joined the firm in 2017 after previously working as a patent attorney in industry (as a member of IP departments of multinational companies) and in private practice.
