Congratulations were in order for Bird & Bird's international IP team last night at the European MIP Awards ceremony in London. The team was nominated for 25 categories across our European offices and took home:
The awards recognises the team's longstanding position at the forefront of IP, as well as the exceptional quality of their work, passion for innovation and cutting-edge approach.
Christian Harmsen, co-Head of the firm's international IP Group was attending on the night and said "This is a great win for our international copyright practice. All have been working hard to steer clients through current and future challenges. We are particularly proud of having been active in many of the key CJEU cases, including a number of landmark decisions on the copyright frontier between the media and tech sectors such as Scarlet v. Sabam, Hewlett Packard v Reprobel, Meltwater and Sportradar. Christian went on to congratulate our French patents team, who are "very strong and truly creative patent litigators with exemplary technical knowledge" and our Swedish copyright team "who have developed a real niche for themselves over the past decade, including the media and digital rights space".
Our media/copyright practice has continued to add to its arsenal with the recent arrival of new Swedish partner, Monique Wadsted. Monique has over 20 years' experience in the field and gained particular recognition for her work on two other seminal copyright cases, Svensson v Retriever in the CJEU, and the US movie industry's claim against the notorious Swedish file-sharing website The Pirate Bay. In addition the team has been bolstered by leading academic, Eleonora Rosati, who joined the firm as Of Counsel and will be based in London. Eleonora, who was named one of 'The 50 Most Influential People in IP' by MIP last year, will soon publish her latest work - Copyright and the Court of Justice of the European Union, which explores the role, action, and legacy of the highest EU court’s copyright case law.
Bird & Bird's international group has been successful at every ceremony since the inception of these awards.
