Bird & Bird hires renowned Tech & Comms partner Lau Normann Jørgensen in Copenhagen

International law firm Bird & Bird today announces the appointment of Lau Normann Jørgensen as a partner in its Commercial practice, with a particular focus on the Tech & Comms sector, in Copenhagen.

Lau is regarded as one of the best tech lawyers in Denmark and is ranked as a "star individual" by Chambers, a member of Legal 500's "Hall of Fame" and included in the Euromoney Expert Guides: Best of the Best Global as one of the top 30 individual practitioners worldwide per practice area. The market recognises Lau's expertise in the IT space, describing him as "a highly skilled specialist in IT and IT outsourcing" and lauds his commercial understanding, saying he is "good at understanding the underlying commercial principles and getting them into the contract" (Chambers 2019).

With more than 25 years' experience, Lau advises on complex technology and outsourcing projects. He has advised on the nationwide travel card project in Denmark, systems development and AD/AM and BPO outsourcing projects in the financial services and healthcare sectors, and business process outsourcings for major shipping companies. Lau joins from Kromann Reumert where he was head of its Technology and Outsourcing practice and advised on cross border projects in collaboration with other global law firms.

Building a leading Tech & Comms practice, particularly in the areas of IT and outsourcing, is part of Bird & Bird's strategic objectives in the Nordics. The addition of Lau Normann Jørgensen comes soon after the recruitment of technology specialist Mattias Lindberg in Stockholm in May. Together, Lau and Mattias will not only significantly bolster the firm's team in the Nordics but also Bird & Bird's international Tech & Comms offering.

Joining with Lau from Kromann Reumert are two associates, Fie Rooed and Julie Ryttov.

Fabian Niemann and Ted Chwu, co-heads of Bird & Bird's international Tech & Comms sector group say: "Together with our chair Marjolein Geus, we are delighted to welcome Lau to the Tech & Comms team here at Bird & Bird. His appointment will be instrumental in our strategic growth and will help us to further consolidate our top ranked profile for the Europe-wide Technology & Communications team."

Jesper Langemark, Head of the Tech & Comms sector group in Bird & Bird Denmark comments: "The appointment of well-known technology and communications specialist Lau Normann Jørgensen in Copenhagen perfectly complements Bird & Bird's strong tech focus. Along with the hire of Mattias Lindberg and his team in Sweden, Lau's arrival will help boost our Commercial practice in Denmark as well as our offering for complex outsourcing and IT-projects in the Nordics."

Lau says: "I am really excited about working for a firm with such a great reputation both locally and internationally in the technology and communications sector. Bird & Bird's international platform will allow me to better advise both new and existing clients. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Nordics and across the firm's international footprint."
