NISD 2 Tracker

On 16 January 2023, the NIS2 Directive came into force. Member States are now in the process of transposing this important piece of cybersecurity legislation into their national law. This task must be completed by 17 October 2024 and, from 18 October 2024, the current NIS Directive will be repealed and Member States will apply the measures they have implemented in the course of transposing the NIS2 Directive.

Member States may extend the scope of the NIS2 Directive and propose national add-ons in terms of additional obligations for the market to comply with. The NIS2 Directive significantly expands the scope of its predecessor (in particular by adding new sectors, including inter alia data center service providers, providers of social networking services platforms and certain groups of manufacturers), modernises the existing cybersecurity framework and requires organisations within its scope to update their internal processes to comply with the enhanced cybersecurity requirements.
