Karen Jacks

Karen Jacks: I’m the Chief Technology Officer at Bird & Bird. I’ve spent many years utilising and adapting various legal tech solutions to best benefit our clients and our business. My team develop solutions with various legal tech suppliers that improve legal service delivery.

I’m particularly proud of our co-creation approach; starting open conversations with clients on how to find new, smarter ways of delivering our services, and more efficient ways of working, exploiting tech where appropriate. Solutions created include automated generation of agreements and workflow / collaboration tools.

Kathryn Pearson: I'm Head of Client Service Solutions at Bird & Bird. I work with clients to develop optimal solutions for the delivery of our services; whether that’s a mix of legal process, client relationship platforms or knowledge management solutions.  Over the years, my role has adapted in line with the changing legal market and increasingly involves designing bespoke solutions harnessing tech to meet specific client needs, applying the latest ideas from conferences such as CLOC.

Most recently my team has developed an automated documentation and workflow process to help a client issue employee share options across 30 countries. This is just one of a number of bespoke solutions we have developed. Another area of focus is driving the adoption of new machine learning technologies, to enable us to deliver greater value to clients.  



Anthony Shillingford: I’m the Global Head of Pricing at Bird & Bird and work directly with clients and their legal ops teams to develop a transparent and robust approach to pricing.

My preferred approach is to work closely with your team to understand what works best for your business. Recognising our clients' demand for live financial data - and partnering with legal ops professionals to ensure your business understands the value of the work done - we provide selected clients with  transparent up-to-date matter information such as WIP, bills etc.

Contributors to the initial development of a streamlined and fully integrated matter pricing tool from Aderant, we were early adopters of what is now an industry standard solution.  More recently, we have developed a toolkit of easy-to-use project management templates that link to the original matter estimate tool, used by the entire Bird & Bird global network.


Lorraine Bellinger: I head the Legal Project Delivery team at Bird & Bird which consists of qualified legal project managers, process optimisation professionals and data analytics experts who work together to ensure the most time efficient and cost effective delivery of legal matters. I have worked both in private practice and in-house legal functions promoting the importance of structure, control, efficiency and communication throughout a matter lifecycle.

Working closely with lawyers and legal operations contacts and colleagues, the Bird & Bird Legal Project Delivery team use a data driven approach to review and enhance processes and manage projects within time and budget constraints, ensuring we deploy the right skillsets and technical solutions to each matter. Open communication is key to successful project delivery and is at the heart of what we do.



Harriet Walsh: I'm a Client Relationship Manager, in the Client Service & Insight team. I work closely with our Strategic clients in order to deepen our relationship, and to ensure we deliver the highest level of service possible by bringing them the very best solutions that Bird & Bird can offer. Day to day, I assist and support clients by acting as the primary point of contact for any operational aspects of our relationship.

I believe that by directly connecting with our clients and understanding their needs we can develop a solution that positively impacts their business, for example using e-billing to drive process improvement, helping to build effective and motivated teams through training and other people initiatives or implementing exciting new technology solutions to support innovative ways of working. I think we will see even more collaboration happening with clients and it is exciting to see what we can achieve and develop together.

Rebecca O'Kelly-Gillard: I'm Partner in our London IP team, advising clients in the Media, Entertainment and Sport sector. A major part of my practice is working with companies to set up their global brand enforcement projects: using technology to streamline processes for clients and make their anti-counterfeit programmes as cost effective as possible.

My focus on developing new methods of providing our services to clients means I like to think outside the box:  I like to think about how we can build better relationships with our clients and help them in ways traditional lawyers don't.

I'm especially proud that one of my projects delivering a client's brand protection system was highly commended in the FT Innovative Lawyers Europe awards in 2017.

Artur-Konrad Wypych: I'm an Employment Associate working in our Düsseldorf office. I particularly focus on collective employment law and have recently used legal AI tool Luminance with a German retail group client to carry out a detailed review of 200,000 contract documents of 20,000 employees to identify clauses referring to collective bargaining agreements. I was delighted to receive a commendation in the FT Innovative Lawyers Europe Awards in 2019 for this project.

I have seen first-hand how these tools benefit clients through increased efficiency and how they can be used beyond corporate transactions. I look forward to these types of solutions becoming more commonplace in my practice moving forwards.
