Bird & Bird Continues Growth of Corporate Practice with New Partner

International law firm Bird & Bird has continued to grow its corporate practice in London with the arrival of partner Jonathan Angell.

Jonathan has particular expertise in financial services mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and in private equity and venture capital transactions. He has over 25 years experience in advising alternative asset managers, investment firms, finance providers (equity and debt) and other strategic/institutional investors across a number of Bird & Bird’s key sectors, particularly financial services.

Bird & Bird’s international corporate practice is in a period of significant growth and Jonathan is the eleventh lateral partner to join the team since January 2023. His arrival comes soon after recent London corporate partner hires Jane Brassington, Michael Dawes and Jee Ha Kim. Globally, the corporate practice promoted five new corporate partners from within the firm last year, which together with laterals gives a total of 16 new corporate partners over the last year.

At a time when many firms are reducing their numbers, Bird & Bird has invested significantly in its Corporate practice. The practice has ambitions to grow strategically at all levels and across the firm’s offices in key areas such as mergers and acquisitions, venture capital, equity capital markets and private equity. In line with Bird & Bird’s new strategy, the Corporate practice will play an important part in helping the firm to achieve its target of EUR1 billion revenue in the next five years.

Matt Bonass, head of the London Corporate practice and co-head of the international Corporate practice at Bird & Bird said: “Jonathan brings significant and longstanding experience in strategically important areas for us, particularly in financial services but also more widely in private equity. As we continue to grow our international corporate group, he will play a key role in helping us to be trusted advisors to new and existing clients.

Alberto Salvadè, co-head of the international Corporate practice at Bird & Bird commented: “Over the last year we have been in growth mode and we have onboarded a number of key partners, as well as promoting from within. Jonathan joins us at an exciting time and I’m certain he will help us to drive forward our ambitious strategy and achieve further success.

Jonathan added: “The team at Bird & Bird is well regarded and the firm has an excellent reputation for their work in a number of innovative areas that are very relevant to my practice. I’m excited about working alongside them.
