Bird & Bird grows its Corporate practice with the appointment of partners Sarah (Ying) Zeng in Beijing and Morten Rosenmejer in Copenhagen

International law firm Bird & Bird today grows its Corporate practice with the appointment of partners Sarah (Ying) Zeng in Beijing and Morten Rosenmejer in Copenhagen.

The appointment of Sarah and Morten is a key part of the international growth plan for the Corporate practice: to bolster the group’s capabilities around M&A transactions across the firm. Sarah’s arrival is also aligned with Bird & Bird’s wider strategy to build its Chinese client base, particularly for outbound work.

Sarah (Ying) Zeng: With more than 25 years of Corporate law and business management experience, Sarah joins from Orrick where she was a partner for two years. Prior to Orrick, she was the managing partner at Dentons in Beijing for 6 years.

Her practice focuses on China outbound M&A, project development in the energy and infrastructure sectors and other cross-border transactions for Chinese private enterprises and US multinational companies. Having worked in-house in a Hong Kong-listed energy business and a Fortune 500 energy company, her in-depth knowledge has allowed her to build a strong reputation in providing practical, dynamic legal advice to clients in the manufacturing, energy and infrastructure sectors.

Morten Rosenmejer: Morten joins from Lundgrens and has advised on some of the most significant transactions on the Danish market, focusing specifically on M&A for both Danish and international companies and private equity funds.

Before focusing on M&A, Morten previously worked at one of the most prominent IP law departments in Denmark, which has provided him with significant insight into the business of and the challenges faced by companies where the IP rights are the main asset. Morten specialises in M&A transactions for such companies, including companies within the tech, fashion, design and media industries. Morten is also one of Denmark’s leading sports and entertainment legal experts.

Peter Veranneman and Alberto Salvadé, co-heads of the international Corporate group say: “We are thrilled to welcome both Sarah and Morten to Bird & Bird. Their experience advising international clients on some of the most significant M&A transactions will further strengthen our Corporate practice. Both partners also have valuable connections with large corporations in the energy as well as the entertainment and sports sectors respectively which will help increase the number of instructions for our Energy & Utilities and Media, Entertainment and Sports sector groups. Welcome to the team Sarah and Morten!

Sarah comments: “Bird & Bird has a long-term strategic interest in the China market and a strong presence in countries that are part of the Belt & Road Initiative. These include specific regions where Chinese companies will more likely make investments in the next few years, especially in Europe, South East Asia, Australia and Africa.  Bird & Bird will provide me with a global platform to advise my clients with their outbound investments in these countries.”

Morten adds: “The firm’s strong position in the tech, media, entertainment and sports space and it’s renowned IP practice is closely aligned with my expertise advising on M&A transactions for companies with IP assets as a core part of their business. I am very much looking forward to working with my colleagues in the Corporate team at Bird & Bird, both locally and internationally.”
